Panther Sighted in Rural Town

"I had been jogging around the same loop for a while and I guess he was just waiting for his opportunity. All of a sudden, I felt this massive presence behind me and then I got tackled from behind. He started biting into my neck and torso and it felt like he was trying to drag me away. I fought back as hard as I could, punching and kicking him, but there was nothing I could do. It seemed like he just wanted to kill me."

The attack went on for what felt like an eternity to the victim, but in reality lasted only a few minutes. Miraculously, another jogger came upon the scene and yelled at the mountain lion, scaring him off. The victim was rushed to the hospital with severe injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

Experts Warn Public to be Alert for Panthers

For the first time in a decade, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) has issued a panther alert for citizens living in Central and North Florida.

Do not leave food or garbage outside overnight that could attract wild animals

Do not feed feral cats as this may attract panthers and other predators

Remove dense vegetation near your home that could provide cover for predators
